Why You’ll Love this Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Latte Recipe

  • An iced chai tea latte topped with creamy pumpkin cold foam is a delicious spiced fall beverage for tea lovers that’s super easy to make at home.
  • Chai black tea is lightly caffeinated compared to cold brew coffee or an espresso latte, making it a great alternative when you don’t want as much caffeine.
  • This recipe is flexible. Use your favorite brand of chai tea and type of milk for the latte.
  • An iced chai latte with pumpkin cold foam is two recipes in one! Once you know how to make pumpkin cold foam, substitute in other flavors for even more cold foam options.

  • Pumpkin Pie Spices
All the ingredients needed to make a homemade iced chai tea latte with pumpkin cold foam.
Chai tea and real pumpkin come together to make this delicious fall ice chai latte beverage.

Chai Tea Concentrate: I make most of my at-home chai drinks with this homemade chai concentrate recipe. It gets rave reviews!

However, you can use a pre-mixed chai concentrate like Tazo. Just make sure it has black tea in it and is not just chai-flavored simple syrup.

Milk: Typically, I make iced chai tea lattes with 2% milk like Starbucks, but you can use your favorite milk, dairy or non-dairy. Just keep in mind, the pumpkin cream foam contains heavy cream so it’s not possible to go completely dairy-free on this drink.

Pumpkin Puree: Grab a can of real pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. The pumpkin is how we’re going to flavor the creamy cold foam topping.

Heavy Cream and more milk make up the creamy base of the cold foam. It’s a must to use heavy cream so it foams up into a nearly whipped cream consistency.

Vanilla Syrup: This simple syrup does double duty and adds sweetness and flavor to the pumpkin cold foam. Make homemade vanilla syrup or use store-bought vanilla syrup.

I usually have a bottle of genuine Starbucks vanilla syrup on-hand. (Did you know Starbucks will sell you a bottle of vanilla syrup if they have enough in stock for about $14 give or take?)

If you want to cut back on sugar, use sugar-free vanilla syrup.

Pumpkin Pie Spice is a mixture of warm spices: cinnamon, ginger, allspice and clove. It’s what gives the pumpkin cold foam the most delicious pumpkin pie flavor. Add even more to garnish your iced pumpkin cream chai latte.

If you don’t have a bottle of this pre-mixed spice, here’s how to mix up pumpkin pie spice on your own.

How to Make an Iced Chai Tea Latte with Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam

Making a homemade iced pumpkin cream chai tea latte is a two step process: first whip up the creamy pumpkin cold foam topping, then make the iced chai tea latte.

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla syrup and pumpkin pie spice. Whisk until well combined. Put it in a cold jar and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. When ready to assemble the chai latte, aerate enough of the homemade pumpkin cream for one latte (about 1/2 cup) until it turns into cold foam texture. For perfect cold foam, first shake the cream in a very cold jar, then use a frother.
  3. To a glass 16 fluid ounces or larger, add chai tea concentrate and milk. Fill the glass with ice leaving about 1 inch space at the top.
  4. Slowly pour the pumpkin cream cold foam on top of the iced chai tea latte. Some of the pumpkin will sit on top of the drink and some will cascade into it.
  5. Sprinkle pumpkin pie spice on top to garnish.

Easy Hack for Making Pumpkin Cold Foam Like Starbucks

The easiest way to make perfect cold foam at home is to shake the cream in a very cold jar for a minute, followed by a frother.

Starbucks turns cream into cold foam using a blender that has an aerating disc with holes in it. Liquid is pulled through the holes and foams it up.

Since most of us don’t have a pricey Vitamix blender equipped with a Vitamix Aer Disc container like Starbucks, here’s my number one trick for achieving Starbucks cold foam consistency at home.

Vigorously shake the pumpkin cream in a very cold jar (that’s been in the freezer). Do this for about a minute. Then, froth it up even more using an electric milk frother on the cold setting or a handheld frother. It works everytime!

My Favorite Electric Frother

I love this Breville electric milk frother. It’s lightweight, has a spout, and is big enough to steam enough milk for lattes.

Iced Pumpkin Cream Dirty Chai Latte

A dirty chai is a popular chai variation that combines espresso and chai tea.

To make an iced pumpkin cream dirty chai tea latte, just follow the recipe below, except add 1 or 2 shots of espresso to the chai tea before topping it with pumpkin cold foam.
