Ingredients Needed
- Milk (I use ultra-filtered dairy milk)
- Greek yogurt
- Pineapple (fresh or frozen)
- Banana, preferably very ripe
- Fresh ginger root
- Salt (optional)
Ingredient Notes
Greek Yogurt: I go with non-fat, plain Greek yogurt that has no added sugar. It keeps the smoothie thick and creamy while boosting the protein. Fage is my usual choice.
Milk: Ultra-filtered dairy milk like Fairlife adds more protein per ounce and slightly less natural sugar. It’s my go-to for almost all smoothies. You can read more about why I like it in my peanut butter banana protein smoothie post.
Pineapple: Fresh or frozen both work. If you want a thick, cold smoothie, freeze your pineapple in a single layer first so it doesn’t clump into one big block.
Banana: A very ripe banana gives the smoothie natural sweetness and that classic banana flavor. I keep bags of frozen banana chunks in my freezer, peeled and cut into one-inch pieces so they blend easily.
Fresh Ginger Root: Fresh ginger adds a bright, spicy kick and is packed with antioxidants.
Peel just the thin outer layer, then slice or grate it so it blends smoothly. Many people like to peel ginger with a spoon, but I find a sharp potato peeler works best for removing only the delicate outer skin without removing any of the good stuff.
Salt: Just a pinch helps balance all the sweet fruit and enhances the flavor.

How I Add Ginger to Smoothies
There are two ways to add ginger to smoothies:
- Fresh ginger root: best flavor and higher vitamin C. Peel a one-inch piece, remove knobby ends, then grate or thinly slice before blending.
- Ground ginger: milder but convenient. Start with ¼ teaspoon and adjust to taste.
How to Make a Pineapple Ginger Smoothie
Detailed recipe and instructions are in recipe card at bottom of post.
- Add the milk to your blender cup first (if using a personal cup blender that you flip over to blend).
- Add pineapple, banana, ginger, and optional pinch of salt.
- Add the yogurt last.
- Blend on the smoothie setting if your blender has one. This helps cycle the frozen fruit so everything blends evenly.
- If using two frozen fruits, finish with an extra 15–30 second blend to make sure it’s completely smooth.
- Pour and enjoy while thick and frosty.
I make all my smoothies in my personal cup Ninja blender so you can see that a high-end blender isn’t necessary. When flipping the cup over, I prefer the yogurt near the blades to keep any from sticking to the top.

Recipe Notes
- Using both frozen pineapple and frozen banana makes the smoothie ultra thick.
- I never use ice cubes for smoothies since they water down the flavor.
- Freeze fruit in a single layer before storing so it doesn’t freeze together in large chunks.
How to Make a Pineapple Ginger Smoothie Freezer Pack
If you love grab-and-blend convenience, this pineapple ginger smoothie is perfect for freezer prep. I make a few at a time so breakfast is ready whenever I am.
What to Add to Each Freezer Pack
- Frozen banana chunks
- Frozen pineapple chunks
- Fresh ginger root, peeled and either sliced or grated
Add everything to a small freezer-safe bag, press out the air, and freeze flat for easy storage. I like to prep several bags at once so they stack neatly in my freezer.
How to Use the Freezer Pack
When you’re ready to make the smoothie:
- Dump the entire freezer pack into your blender.
- Add the liquid ingredients — milk and Greek yogurt.
- Blend until smooth and creamy, adding an extra splash of milk if your blender needs more movement.
It’s the easiest way to keep frozen fruit on hand and makes weekday mornings so much smoother.
Ginger in Smoothie Benefits
Ginger is known for its digestion support, antioxidant content, and anti-inflammatory potential. Fresh ginger contains gingerol, which is responsible for both the flavor and many of its benefits.
Pineapple also contains bromelain, another enzyme tied to digestion and inflammation support.
Together they make a nutrient-packed duo that tastes amazing and feels good.
