There’s something so cozy about a turmeric latte, also known as golden milk. I love sipping one in the evening when I want something warm and soothing but without caffeine.
That’s why I started keeping a homemade turmeric latte powder mix on hand. Instead of measuring turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and black pepper every single time, I just scoop from the jar. It’s my shortcut to a turmeric latte anytime I want one.
Of course, you can buy pre-made mixes, but I like knowing exactly what’s in mine. No fillers, no added sugar, and a lot less expensive than store-bought. Plus, I can sweeten my latte however I like, with honey, maple syrup, sugar or even just plain.
And just like my turmeric tea concentrate and friendship spiced tea mix, this recipe is another example of me making things ahead to save time later. Think of it like meal-prep, but for drinks!
Why You’ll Love This Turmeric Latte Mix
Coffee shop favorite at home – Golden milk lattes are popular at coffee shops, but they’re often pricey. Making them at home with this mix saves money, and you’re essentially using a pre-blended mix like cafés do.
Super convenient – Just a spoonful of the mix and hot milk, and your latte is ready in minutes.
Budget-friendly – Making it yourself is so much cheaper than buying pre-made golden milk powders.
No fillers or sugar – It’s pure spices, so you can sweeten however you like or keep it unsweetened.
Warming and cozy – Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg create a naturally comforting flavor.
Customizable – Adjust the spice ratios to match your taste. Love ginger? Add more!
Perfect for gifting – A little jar of this mix makes a thoughtful, homemade present for tea lovers.
Looking for more homemade gift ideas? My friendship spiced tea mix is always a hit. It’s a nostalgic blend (yes, the one with Tang!) that readers love giving around the holidays. Just like this turmeric latte mix, it’s simple to stir together, easy to package in jars, and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients Needed for the Powder Mix
- Ground turmeric
- Ground ginger
- Ground cinnamon
- Ground cardamom
- Ground nutmeg
- Ground black pepper
That’s it, just six simple spices!
Ingredient Notes
- Turmeric – The star ingredient. It what gives turmeric lattes their signature golden color and earthy flavor. Just grab a bottle of ground turmeric from your store’s spice aisle. You don’t need anything special here.
- Black pepper – Don’t skip this! Piperine in pepper helps your body absorb curcumin, the beneficial compound in turmeric.
- Cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg – These spices add warmth, sweetness, and balance to turmeric’s slightly bitter edge.
Variations: You can absolutely play around with this blend to make it your own. Just keep the black pepper, and feel free to adjust the amounts of the other spices or even add extras like vanilla powder or cloves.
If you usually sweeten your latte, you could stir sugar right into the mix itself. Just remember to add a little more powder per drink to account for it.
I’ve fallen in love with making my own tea blends and concentrates, and this turmeric latte powder mix is one of the simplest. I keep it right next to my tea bags and loose leaf jars, so it’s always ready to go. If you love warm, spiced drinks as much as I do, I think this mix will quickly become a pantry staple for you too.
How to Make Turmeric Latte Mix
Detailed recipe and instructions are in recipe card at bottom of post.
- Mix the spices together. In a small bowl, combine ground turmeric, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, ground nutmeg, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
- Store it. Transfer the mix into a clean, airtight jar. Keep it in your pantry or spice cupboard.
- To use. Stir ½ to 1 teaspoon of the mix into hot milk for a turmeric latte, or hot water for a turmeric tea. Sweeten to taste with honey, maple syrup, or your preferred sweetener.
That’s it, so easy!
Try my turmeric tea concentrate if you prefer a fresh, liquid version. It’s made with turmeric root, ginger root, and whole spices, and you just mix it with hot water or milk for an instant drink you can enjoy throughout the week.
Best Milk to Use for Turmeric Lattes
You can make golden milk with either cow’s milk or plant-based milk, and both work beautifully. I often switch depending on my mood or what I have on hand.
One thing to know is that curcumin in turmeric is fat-soluble, which means your body absorbs it better when there’s some fat in the drink.
If you use whole dairy milk or a creamier plant-based milk (like coconut or oat), you’ll naturally get that fat boost.
If you’re using fat-free milk or making a simple turmeric tea with hot water, it helps to add a little fat on the side.
A tiny bit of coconut oil or ghee works perfectly. Or do what I often do and eat a few nuts along with my latte. Easy and effective!
Why People Drink Turmeric Tea or Lattes
People enjoy turmeric lattes for more than just the cozy flavor. Here are some common reasons turmeric has become part of many daily routines:
- Contains curcumin, a compound often linked to health benefits.
- Considered anti-inflammatory by many wellness communities.
- Naturally caffeine-free, making it great for evening sipping.
- Often used as a soothing bedtime drink.
- A way to enjoy warming spices in a comforting, creamy drink.
Important Note
If you plan to drink turmeric tea or lattes regularly, be mindful. Turmeric may not be suitable in high amounts for everyone, especially if you’re pregnant or have certain health conditions. When in doubt, check with your doctor.
