Ingredient Notes & Tips

Peppermint Syrup: Store-bought peppermint syrup (like Torani Peppermint) works great, but homemade syrup gives you more control over flavor strength and sweetness.

Dark Cocoa Bar: Choose a high-quality chocolate bar that’s at least 40–70% cocoa. Look for real cocoa butter in the ingredients (not vegetable fats) for that smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Skip over the milk chocolate candy bar section. That’s not the same thing.

Heavy Cream & Milk: I prefer using a mix of heavy cream and whole milk for balance. You can also substitute sweetened condensed milk for a thicker, sweeter version.

For this recipe, most of the sweetness comes from the peppermint syrup and melted cocoa and cream, give it an indulgent silkiness.

How to Make Peppermint Mocha Creamer

Detailed recipe and instructions are in recipe card at bottom of post.

Follow these simple steps to make your own peppermint mocha creamer at home:

  1. Melt the chocolate: Chop the dark chocolate bar into small pieces. Melt in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, for about 1–2 minutes.
  2. Add peppermint syrup: Slowly drizzle in room-temperature (or slightly warmed) syrup while stirring. Avoid adding it cold or all at once. It can cause the chocolate to seize.
  3. Add cream and milk: Warm the milk and cream (about 45 seconds in the microwave), then slowly whisk them into the chocolate mixture until smooth. Again, we don’t want cold liquids to seize the chocolate.
  4. Cool and store: Pour the finished creamer into a sterilized glass bottle or jar and refrigerate. Use by the earliest expiration date of your milk or cream.

This easy homemade Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer is made with real chocolate, cream, and plenty of peppermint for that classic holiday flavor. Add a splash to your coffee or use it to make cozy peppermint lattes all season long.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup peppermint syrup
  • 3.5 ounce dark cocoa bar, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate. Cut dark chocolate cocoa bar into small pieces for even melting. Place it in a small saucepan over low heat and stir until melted, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add the peppermint syrup. Slowly drizzle room temperature peppermint syrup into chocolate, stirring constantly. Avoid dumping the syrup in all at once and using cold syrup as both may cause the chocolate to seize.
  3. Add cream to peppermint mocha mixture. Remove the peppermint chocolate from the heat and slowly whisk in small amounts of cream and milk that's been slightly warmed in the microwave. Avoid cold liquids to prevent seizing the chocolate. Set aside to cool.
  4. Store peppermint mocha creamer in refrigerator. Pour the creamer into a sterilized bottle and store in the refrigerator until the earliest expiration date on the heavy cream or milk.

Notes

  • Chop chocolate into small even-sized pieces so it melts uniformly.
  • Melt on low heat. It only takes a minute so don't walk away.
  • Prevent seizing up the chocolate by using clean, dry saucepan and utensils, as well as slightly warming up any liquids (syrup and cream), and adding them to the chocolate in small increments.
  • For more intense peppermint flavor, add a small amount of peppermint extract. Taste and add more as desired.
  • For thicker peppermint mocha creamer, use sweetened condensed milk in place of the heavy cream.
